Photon energy increases as wavelength decreases, so violet light has greater photon energy than blue light.
UV-blue and lipofuscin phototoxicities are greater for violet light than for blue light.
Other potential retinal phototoxins, like A2E, porphyrin and cytochrome c oxidase, have peak spectral absorptions in the violet region and not in the blue region.
Macular xanthophyll protection declines rapidly in the violet region.
